Various Houseboats from Kumarakom / Alappuzha, Kerala State, India
Various types of Houseboats are available in Kumarakom & Alappuzha such as single bedroom, double bedroom, three bedroom, four Bedroom, five bedroom, six bedroom, seven bedroom etc., at different tariff. Houseboats are either air conditioned or non airconditioned, but we suggest only to have air conditioned Houseboats, otherwise it will not be comfortable at night.
The above houseboats can be basically classified as Budget, Deluxe, Premium and five star Houseboats. The basic service offered in all the houseboats are same, that is overnight stay in the houseboat, food and beverages and cruising through the backwaters.
The Houseboats differ in the size of the bedroom and sit out, good furniture, quality and the backup of the air conditioners, services of the staff, more choice of food, cruising time, maintenance of the houseboat, bathroom facilities and other luxuries.
There are also Premium Houseboats with five star services, so that the guest will have additional facility of swimming pool, health club and also can have their food and beverages from the lakeside five star resorts. There will be a wide difference in the tariff of Houseboats, if you need premium and five star Houseboats.
Each houseboat is basically with a bedroom, attached bathroom, sit out/porch with few easy chairs to enjoy the sightseeing and a small kitchen and an attached bathroom for the staff. There will be minimum three crews in the Houseboat among them one person will be the cook and they are supposed to stay in the staff area of the Houseboat.
Houseboat overnight stay
Check in time 12.noon Check out will be by9 Am, Overnight stay up to 21 hours in the Houseboat, A/C will be functioning generally from 8pm to 6.30am only. Welcome drink, lunch, evening tea, coffee with snacks, dinner, breakfast, fruits, and mineral water will be provided in the Houseboat. Cruising time will be, minimum five hours through, Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom Backwaters, Midnight land, Kavanattinkara, Thanneermukkham Bund, Birds Sanctuary, Sightseeing through the lake Side Hotels/Resorts etc. OR R.block, C block and Alleppey Backwaters etc. Remaining Hours the House Boat will be stationed in the Lake (during the day time) and in the night it will be stationed on the side of a canal, in Kumarakom or at Alappuzha, or in front of the lakeside resorts.
Backwater Cruising in Houseboats
Houseboats are available from Kumarakom for Kumarakom and Alappuzha backwater cruising on hourly basis. You will get the Houseboat for minimum two hours to full day backwater cruising with lunch and evening coffee, tea with snacks on hourly tariff plus the cost of the food and beverages.
Houseboats, Motorboats and Speedboats are available for Kumarakom and Alappuzha backwater cruising, Vembanad lake is very famous for backwater cruising, fishing, scenic beauty, lush green surroundings, spectacular trial races of snake boats ,Boat races, Vellavali —unique type of fishing, view of Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, Fish Sanctuary, Pathiramanal Island, Thanneermukkham salt water barrage, paddy fields, coconut plantations and beautiful lakeside cottages of various holiday resorts, which includes budget lakeside resorts to five star deluxe resorts, Muhamma, Kottayam ,Alappuzha, Kochi, Kuttanad and Alumkadavu at Kollam and Sightseeing of other water activities at the lake.
Houseboat cruising on Vembanad Lake at sunrise and sunset will provide you breathtaking view of the setting sun. You can experience the trial races of the snake boats from July, during morning and evening at various places in Kumarakom and Alappuzha and also enjoy Public Boat Races in Kerala especially Nehru Trophy Boat Race at Alappuzha on the second Saturday of of August in every year.
